What To Do In Amed – A Complete Travel Guide To Read Before Your Trip

Amed Bali – A Complete Area Guide To Read Before Your Trip

Amed, which is located in the eastern region of Bali approximately 2 to 3 hours drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport, is a small (but growing exponentially in popularity) seaside area that’s known for its excruciatingly heavy emphasis on the top three tropical holiday must-haves: dozing, dining, and diving.

It encompasses the seven fishing villages of Amed, Jemeluk, Bunutan, Lipah, Selang, Banyuning and Aas, and is said to be home to some of the greatest coastlines in all of Bali. Snorkelers and scuba divers in Bali are especially aware of this place due to its eastern shoreline that hosts some of the best marine life to swim amongst, and even a historical shipwreck to explore amongst the mix.

Various dive operators have set up base here, and visitors can expect to barely lift a finger before being transported away to the beach to swim amongst the fish in crystal clear waters.

Amed Bali – A Complete Area Guide To Read Before Your Trip Beach

The reputation of Amed Bali did not begin rising in popularity until the early 2000s, which is why many tourists heading to Bali naturally are hesitant about including it into their itinerary. However, rest assured, anyone who has ever visited Amed has left feeling overwhelmed and amazed that such a relaxing, beautiful slice of tropical paradise could exist at a party destination like Bali.

It’s been known that the pace in Amed is extremely slow; it’s the place where you’d wake up in the middle of the day and not feel an inch of guilt, or indulge in cocktails by the beach all the day and warung stalls (street food) all night long before heading back to your luxury villa to sleep it off and do it all over again the next day.

The sunsets are said to take your breath away, with some of the best viewpoints giving you a proper good view of Mt. Agung in the background where the sun slips behind. In case you don’t know, Mt. Agung is known as the Mt. Fuji of Bali.

The Best Restaurants in Amed

Warung Enak

Amed Bali Balinese Food

Often labelled the favourite by locals and visitors to Amed, Warung Enak is without the glitz and glamour of most restaurants. Instead, it relies on its cultural charm, explosive flavours, and distinct Balinese dishes to uphold its name. The cost of Warung Enek is cheaper than most restaurants in Amed, and you can guarantee you’ll find something for everyone there.

Think along the lines of: chicken curry, chicken with pineapple, Balinese pork stew, pizza, and even fresh juices. The restaurant name aptly translates to ‘delicious’ and rightfully so. If you’re planning to head there, keep in mind that their best sellers are their Balinese curries and their chicken satay.

Gusto Resto

Amed Bali - Gusto Resto

A popular restaurant destination for those who want to dine with a view, the vast ocean stretching out from the luscious vegetation surrounding the restaurant make for some pretty good views. The restaurant itself offers a wide variety of different cuisines from around the world, attracting a wide and diverse crowds to its balcony.

Serving up Indonesian, Mediterranean, Italian, and even a few Hungarian dishes means that you’ll probably have some trouble deciding on only a few dishes to try (you might have to come back a few times!). The friendly, chill atmosphere of the restaurant is a massive bonus. Come dressed in your lounging clothes, it’s completely acceptable. Some of their dishes you need to try include their bruschetta, falafel, and eggplant cream.

The Grill Bar and Restaurant

Amed Bali The Grill Bar and Restaurant

Opened and managed by an Australian entrepreneur, The Grill Bar and Restaurant in Amed Bali specialises in the real meaty dishes, including barbeque steaks, ribs and chops. However, in saying that, there are other, lighter, less ‘meatier’ dishes that you can select as well, including pizza, wraps, plentiful seafood dishes and burgers.

As with most Australian barbeque restaurants, you can decide how you want your meat cooked which is a big plus for those who can’t part with their quality medium-rare steaks. The restaurant is casually decorated with both indoor and outdoor dining options, and is a great option for a group of friends to lounge around for a few hours, sharing food and beers (there’s even a decent wine list) and generally taking in the beautiful air in Amed.

Some of the recommendations of this restaurant include, surprisingly, the sesame-crusted grilled tuna steak (great for those who prefer seafood over meat), and the Australian Ribeye steak.

The Best Bars & Clubs in Amed

Double One

Amed Bali Double One Villa Bar

Rub elbows with backpackers, divers, honeymooners, and even small families here as they gather together to enjoy a good-natured, laid back atmosphere. Live music plays a few nights a week, but otherwise, chill tunes will be playing constantly in the background to put you into the mood.

Wawa Wewe Restaurant and Bar

Amed Bali Wawa Wewe Villa Bar Hotel

With a name as funky as this, you’d expect this place to bring the goodies, and it definitely does. Situated right on the sands of Amed Beach sits Wawa Wewe, a stunning beach bar that brings a little life into the slow-paced Amed crowd.

Occasional live bands, a super hip décor, and an extensive, delectable drinks menu means that its draws crowds on any given day of the week, although you can expect it to be nothing like the bars in Kuta. People generally head here for a relaxing night of listening to the ocean waves (it’s literally right there!), and becoming heady via all the delicious cocktails on the menu.

The bohemian atmosphere of this place puts everyone in a tranquil state of mind. If you’re hungry, this establishment also serves up mean Indonesian and Italian food.

Reef Bar

Amed Bali Reef Bar

Whilst Reef Bar is more known for their delicious Italian cuisine specialising in thin crust pizzas, they also offer a massive range of great beers and exotic tropical cocktail concoctions that can be tried at any hour of the day. The relaxed atmosphere, beachfront location, and wide bar draws crowds from all over Amed.

Expect to see divers head here after a full day of exploring the waters, cracking open a cold beer over a bunch of pizzas, discussing their adventures into the night. People who have dined at Reef Bar have claimed that it serves the ‘best pizza in Amed’. If you’re after a night of good food and great drinks, this is probably the answer.

As the most casual bar/restaurant on this list, you won’t have to worry about any pretences – spend your day lounging by the pool or the beach, and when dinnertime rolls around, gather the crew, head to Reef Bar, order some pizzas and let the free-flowing drinks begin!

If you’re keen on getting away from the usual Bali crowd, and just want to spend a few days lazing in the sun, leisurely snorkelling and scuba diving, exploring untouched rice fields and watching beautiful sunsets every night, get off the beaten path and pop Amed into your itinerary for a few days, you won’t regret it.
